The intradermal test is the most commonly used method for identifying allergies. During this test, small amounts of allergen extracts are applied directly under the skin with very small needles, typically on the forearm or back. After approximately 10 minutes, the test sites are evaluated for redness, swelling, or raised bumps. The size of the reaction helps determine whether the result is positive.

An allergy blood test measures the level of allergen-specific antibodies, known as immunoglobulin E (IgE), in your bloodstream. Elevated levels of IgE associated with a particular allergen may indicate an allergic sensitivity to that substance.
Blood testing is often used to support or confirm the results of allergy skin testing. It may also be recommended as an alternative when skin testing is not appropriate, such as for individuals with certain medical conditions, skin disorders, or a history of severe allergic reactions.
